Sonia

Lower Hutt born Sonia Hendry is a happily married woman with 4 children of her own and 3 step children.  Sonia has danced since she was just 7 years old starting with ballet, then spent years performing for live audiences as an adult. Sonia takes her experience and uses it for good reasons, to empower everyday people to feel good about themselves and have fun while doing it.

Sonia has a passion for Pole Fitness and hopes that one day it will be seen as an artistic expression and a way of having fun while getting fit. She hopes that the art form originally taken from 12 centuries ago (Chinese pole, Mallakhamb) is accepted into the sporting world in this century.
She has spent 7 years so far teaching pole dancing for fitness and fun to women, men and children in the greater Wellington area, and hopes to teach many more.

Sonia has a very bubbly personality and likes to make classes light hearted, fun and safe for everyone.

Sonia spent the time and money in quality training with some of the world’s best pole teachers and has come away with a great knowledge in the safe practices and teaching of pole fitness.

Sonia was the first in NZ to open a pole fitness studio and teach, the first to be on National TV doing Pole Fitness, the first to put together and hold a national competition. She is a member of the International Pole Federation,  was an official Judge at the first Australian Pole Dance Championships 2009 and is also the title holder of Miss Pole Dance NZ 2nd Runner up 2009 even after a car accident left her back damaged and without training!

Sonia has fought some real personal issues herself with the help of pole fitness, weight issues, back problems, mental health issues and knee injuries to name just a few. She does not believe in such words as cant! She challenges anyone to give pole fitness a go for a healthy change to life, it’s for body mind and spirit!

Julia

Julia has a background in dance and gymnastics. She started pole fitness in 2005 at Sonia’s original studio and has continued at her new studio in 2007. “I was nervous when I first started but it’s a really warm, friendly environment and Sonia put me at ease straight away. It’s so much fun that you can’t wait for the next class!  I’ve noticed a vast improvement in my flexibility, muscle tone and energy levels; all due to pole fitness. It sculpts and tightens your body too. I recommend pole fitness to all those who like to enjoy themselves while they workout; experience is absolutely not essential and you’ll have a great time!” She has now joined Sonia and Kiwi Pole Fitness and is currently learning to teach other women this fun new fitness, developing and improving my style everyday. =) Cheers!
